Early in 2013, I got a phone call. I was on the elliptical, naturally. I had been playing phone tag with this friend, so I knew I HAD to take it…no matter if I ate it while striding or not! The second I heard my friend’s voice, I knew what she was going to tell me. I felt it in my bones and immediately, a lump formed in my throat. She told me that she had breast cancer. I cried a lot that day. I have cried several times since, but let me tell you…if anyone can kick cancer’s big butt, it’s this girl. Mandy. She’s one of the strongest people I have ever met, and I am constantly in awe of her. I look up to her. She’s like the big sister I never had and always wanted. I’m so glad she’s a fighter because I can’t imagine a world without her.
Her rad family members each show their support for her in different ways, but they all agree that wigs are super fun for everyone…not just Mandy (though she makes it look damn good)! I love this session for so many reasons, but mostly because in each image, I can feel them all rally around her. Eric, Finn, and Sammy, you guys are incredible, and I am really happy that Mandy has you all. I’ve never seen you all as “together” as you have been this past year. You are SUCH a unit, and it is such a visual reminder for me to hold my own people close to my heart.
Mandy, my dear, you are as gorgeous as ever. Keep fighting. I love you to pieces. You’ve inspired me in more ways than you know.
